JOB SUMMARY
The API Gateway Systems Engineer plays a crucial role in managing and configuring the Layer7 API Gateway to support a Government Agency’s modern and legacy business systems. This role requires a deep understanding of API management solutions that provide secure, reliable access to web services across a variety of environments.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Duties will include, but are not limited to, the following.
- Design, implement, and manage Layer7 API Gateway configurations to ensure secure, scalable, and efficient access.
- Creation and management of Change Requests to support Layer7 API Gateways work in lab, production and multi/hybrid-cloud environments
- Review Layer7 API Gateways Security Advisories on a daily basis for any advisories relating to all components associated with Layer7 API Gateways (physical/virtual/multi-cloud/hybrid-cloud).
- Propose changes to configurations based on advisories and provide the implementation plan for proposed changes.
- Document Layer7 API Gateway resource creation for each application and environment.
- Support the operation and maintenance of Layer7 API Gateways 11.0 or later version(s).
- Monitor and troubleshoot API Gateway performance issues, providing timely resolution to maintain service availability.
- Collaborate with IT and security teams to align API Gateway configurations with agency standards and compliance requirements.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
It is desirable that the candidate has the following qualifications:
- Proficient in API management concepts and technologies, specifically Layer7 API Gateways.
- Experience in securing APIs using OAuth, SAML, and SSL/TLS protocols.
- Strong understanding of networking and web services protocols (HTTP, HTTPS, TCP/IP).
- Proficiency in Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) methodologies for securing access to API Gateway systems.
- Experience with Okta for identity and access management integration within API Gateway environments.
- Demonstrated expertise in configuring and managing Symantec Anti-virus ICAP servers for threat detection and prevention within API Gateway setups.
- SAML 2.0/OAUTH 2.0 implementation.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
It is desirable that the candidate has the following qualifications and skills:
- Ability to script and automate tasks for efficient API Gateway deployment and management.
- Familiarity with cloud services (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and their integration with API management solutions.
- Assist with Layer7 API Gateway traffic observability to include automation and integration with monitoring tools.
- Knowledge of containerization technologies for seamless integration with API Gateway deployments.
- Understanding of DevOps principles and tools to facilitate continuous integration and deployment workflows.
- Experience in performance tuning and optimization of API Gateway servers for enhanced scalability and efficiency.
- Proficiency in programming languages for deeper customization and extensibility of API Gateway functionalities.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
- 6+ years of experience in API Gateway management, preferably with Layer7 API Gateways.
- Proven track record of deploying and managing API Gateways in a large-scale enterprise environment.
- Experience in monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimizing API Gateways and related technologies.
