JOB SUMMARY
The Network Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for operating, maintaining, and managing day-to-day operations of network infrastructure systems for a mid-sized organization supporting government systems. The candidate will provide technical support for the design, implementation, and maintenance of LAN/WAN systems, switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless controllers to ensure secure and reliable network operations.
This role is ideal for a mid-level engineer with a strong foundation in networking and a passion for ensuring optimal performance and security.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Duties will include, but are not limited to, the following tasks:
- Operate and maintain core and access layer network components, including Cisco and Aruba hardware.
- Perform configuration, optimization, and troubleshooting of network systems, including VLANs, VPNs, and routing protocols (e.g., OSPF, BGP).
- Manage network security by applying patches, securing configurations, and ensuring compliance with DISA STIGs, IAVAs, and other relevant cybersecurity requirements.
- Monitor network performance, conduct traffic shaping and optimization, and ensure uptime targets of at least 98.5%.
- Provide Tier 2 and Tier 3 technical support to troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues.
- Manage DNS, DHCP, and IPAM services, ensuring availability and failover readiness.
- Support wireless network operations, including troubleshooting wireless access points and optimizing wireless services.
- Maintain audit logs, perform security updates, and ensure compliance with government cybersecurity standards.
- Participate in on-call rotations to address network outages and priority issues.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS, AND SKILLS
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in network infrastructure management and operations.
- Familiarity with configuring and managing Cisco and Aruba devices, firewalls (e.g., Palo Alto), and network monitoring tools (e.g., Splunk).
- Must possess or be able to obtain within six months a CompTIA Security+ certification or equivalent.
- Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) Enterprise certification is required.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
It is desirable that the candidate has the following qualifications:
- Experience working in government or DoD environments preferred.
EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree in an IT-related field preferred. Five years of network engineering experience may be applied in place of a degree.
SALARY RANGE
$110,000.00 – $120,000.00 per year
